What is Hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism   is a word that we often hear inside the gym. Frequently female members complaint how their Thyroid problem made them fat. This is a very common disorder, some call it UNDERACTIVE thyroid sickness, because in this condition the thyroid gland, located in the lower front part of the neck does not make sufficient thyroid hormone which is required to balance various processes in the body which are directly connected to the metabolism. It effects how body burns calories, temperature, recovery, heartbeat, hair health and more.

The cause

There are many reasons why some people develop this disorder of Hypothyroidism, the Hashimoto’s disease is one such very common reason. In this, body’s immune system gets against the body and bothers the thyroid glands. Some medications to treat heart problems and cancer effect the production of Thyroid hormones. The amount of Iodine, lower than the normal requirements, in diet can hurt the thyroid glands and create trouble. Problem by birth, when a child is born with under developed thyroid glands and sometimes the reason is damaged pituitary gland or its disorder. This disturbs the production of hormones through the thyroid gland and puts a person into Hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism and Fat loss

As Hypothyroidism enables fat accumulation, one has to understand how to take care of them in this condition. The basics remains basics, one has to follow the same protocol what any ordinary person would follow for fat loss.

  • Eat clean
  • Count your calories
  • Frequent meals
  • 8 hours of sleep at night
  • 2 hours nap in the day
  • Exercise daily
  • Avoid over training
  • Stay hydrated
  • Resolve insulin resistance
  • Get T3 checked and
  • Stay positive avoid stress

All the above topics are very clear already for most of the people reading this article, but TWO things that need more attention are, OVER TRAINING and RESOLVE INSULIN RESISTANCE.

 

OVER TRAINING

People who are struggling to lose fat often make this mistake, THEY TRAIN A LOT. They perform so much cardio and even then don’t get satisfied until they spend an hour in weight training. This is exactly what stops them from losing fat and getting into their desired shape. The workout session should be precise, and quality of exercises should be high. One should save the energy and use it in productive and important training only, anything unimportant should be avoided.

There must be a well organized workout schedule to keep the body into anabolic stage, so body could get proper recovery and also get ready for the next session with full energy. Often times people train in a weird manner where they don’t fully recover from the previous work out and go gym next day for their next session.

RESOLVE INSULIN RESISTANCE

Insulin is the main reason why a person gains fat. When the blood sugar levels elevate, pancreas release Insulin. This insulin then collects the extra sugar running in the blood stream and sends it into the fat cells, below the skin. Insulin is triggered extremely when a person eats or drinks something rich in sugar or carbohydrates.

Staying insulin sensitive helps a person lose fat at a greater level. One should adapt a life style where the food habits doesn’t trigger the insulin now and then. It is good to trigger the insulin in the POST WORKOUT by having simple or high GI carbohydrates with the protein as it enhances the recovery but otherwise insulin becomes the main reason for fat accumulation.

Conclusion

As of now it sounds very clear, one has to make sure that they make necessary changes in their life style to fight the hypothyroidism. One has to stay connected to their family doctor, monitor the level hormones and take medications but one has to do EVERYTHING which is necessary to help them live a better life inspite of the condition that has occurred.
